By village custom, a monster suitor must court and wed a human bride — but he’s not the only monster in the running, and the other two are here specifically to put babies in the girls he loves. The Blue Betrothal, from circle Charcoal Grilled Bontan, is a cohabitation RPG that hands you a childhood-friend-flavored harem setup and then asks the one question netorare fans actually care about: do you fight for all three heroines, or step back and watch what happens when you don’t?
What works

The core structure is the draw here. You, a harmless puppy-dog of a protagonist, live communally with three human girls — Melan, the sweet one with the winning smile; Sia, a precocious little-miss type; and Panyula, a soft-bodied, willful handful — alongside two rival monsters: Gimlet, a handsome incubus, and Digaf, a might-makes-right musclehead. The day cycles through morning, evening, and night, and depending on where you are and when, you can stumble onto scenes the protagonist was never meant to see. The game renders its pixel-art characters on an explorable 3D map, so camera angle genuinely matters — peeking through a window or catching sounds from behind a tent flap is a deliberate mechanic, not a cutscene. It’s a voyeur loop that makes the NTR feel discovered rather than delivered, and that’s exactly the right instinct for this genre.
Crucially, the outcome is in your hands. Routes branch based on whose flags you raise: you can monopolize all three girls yourself, split them up among the men, or deliberately lose ground and let a rival build his own harem, with a distinct true-end path if you claim everyone. That makes this one of those rare hybrid works that serves both pure-love harem players and dedicated NTR watchers without forcing either group through content they hate. The erotic contrast is the engine driving it all: the protagonist is timid and modestly equipped, while Gimlet brings incubus charm and Digaf brings sheer size, and their scenes are drenched in the “copious fluids” tag the store page promises. If you let the rivals work, the girls come back visibly, messily changed — the whole appeal of the cuckold angle rendered in escalating detail. With 27 base CGs expanded to 154 variations and well over a hundred recall scenes — plus a full gallery unlock you can reach almost immediately from the starting house — the sheer scene volume is generous for a doujin RPG, and community reception has climbed steadily since release as patches landed.
What doesn’t

Performance is the honest asterisk on all of this. The pixel-characters-on-3D-terrain presentation is charming but surprisingly demanding — players on modest PCs report long load times that a game of this visual style has no business asking for. The developer added a fast-forward feature that speeds up game time itself rather than just skipping text, which is a thoughtful fix for the day-cycle grind, but leaning on it too hard reportedly caused event-trigger glitches in earlier builds. The circle has been actively patching, and the trajectory is clearly upward, but if you’re on a weak machine, try the trial version first — the store page itself insists on it, and for once that warning is worth heeding.
The other caveat is by design: the protagonist’s own H-scenes are deliberately mild. He’s shy, undersized, and plain in bed, because the game wants the rivals to outclass him. If you’re here for the monopolize-everything harem route, understand that your reward scenes are the vanilla-flavored ones, while the juiciest, most fluid-soaked content lives on the paths where you lose. Harem purists may finish the true end feeling like the game saved its best animation budget for the other guys.
Who should buy this

This is Japanese-only with no official English support, so factor that in. The good news: it’s an exploration-driven RPG where the storytelling is heavily situational — you see the tent shaking, you see the state of the room afterward — so the core appeal survives without reading fluency, and a texthooker or OCR translation tool will comfortably carry you through the dialogue and route flags. NTR enthusiasts who like the watching-from-outside framing are the primary audience; harem players who want the option to win everything get a real route too. Skip it if you need a powerful protagonist, if optional-NTR still ruins a game for you, or if your PC is genuinely low-spec.
Verdict

7.5 / 10. A smartly built choose-your-own-cuckolding sim with real scene volume and a voyeur structure that most NTR games only fake — held back from higher marks by engine performance that punishes modest hardware and a (deliberate) imbalance that gives the rivals all the best material.
