Ruluu's Town-Building Adventure (これがルルゥのまちづくりっ!) — Honest Review

Reviewed work by apricokobo · View on DLsite

apricokobo’s latest is a female-protagonist RPG that welds three games together — a town-rebuilding sim, a top-down tower crawl stuffed with ero traps, and a corruption arc that keeps escalating well past the credits — and then buries all of it under one of the largest piles of pixel animation you’ll see in a doujin release this year. If “slow pleasure-corruption heroine” and “always-animated pixel H” are phrases that mean something to you, this is squarely aimed at your wallet. It’s a 12–15 hour commitment, entirely in Japanese, and it earns the runtime.

What works

The core loop is genuinely well-built. A mysterious tower appears near Ruluu’s village, the frightened villagers all leave, and after meeting the fairy Mimimi she resolves to conquer the tower and rebuild her home. In practice you alternate between two halves: the village-restoration side, where Ruluu takes on jobs to fund new facilities — cow-print bikini waitress at the tavern, sister duty at the church’s confession hole, maid work at a rich household — and the tower side, a top-down action-RPG dungeon where each stretch of floors throws new ero traps, status ailments, and monsters at her, getting more extreme the higher you climb. The two halves feed each other cleanly: tower runs bring back money and unique items, the village grows and unlocks new events and residents, and Ruluu’s reluctant early jobs gradually give way to her “hidden talent” blooming. The corruption pacing is the classic slow burn done properly, and it doesn’t stop at the ending — there’s a whole post-clear phase where the fallen version of Ruluu gets noticeably filthier content, plus EX floors in the tower.

Then there’s the sheer volume, which is the headline. Over 135 base animations (90 on the village side, 50 in the tower, including 37 trap scenes and 13 aftermath scenes), over 200 H events, over 45,000 animation frames, and 35+ ero-status animations — the little always-moving status panel that updates as Ruluu’s experience accumulates, with 70+ flavor comments and its own customization room. The aftermath scenes deserve special mention: the circle clearly obsesses over them, with overflowing creampies, twitching bodies, squirting climaxes and wetting rendered as their own dedicated animations rather than a quick fade-out. There’s a “semen tank” system where walking around with Ruluu full to capacity causes visible overflow. Add breathing-gasp background voice and mini voices throughout — the tags promise crude, unrestrained moaning and they deliver — and the moment-to-moment lewd presentation is about as dense as pixel games get. Community reception has landed hard on exactly this point: high animation quality across an absurd quantity, with the wilder squirting and post-sex material called out as highlights.

The side content is more than filler, too. Sub-heroine Kohaku gets a dedicated story told from both her perspective and Ruluu’s, gated by unique items you haul back from specific tower floors. Mimimi has a command-driven touching mode where you can chain multiple lewd instructions together, and pushing her over the edge too many times knocks her out — with the option to keep going. And there’s a full first-person “Ruluu and you” mode, all in oversized chunky pixels, where she becomes your personal companion (player name changeable) and you raise your relationship through talk and touch to unlock scenes. Multiple endings exist but they’re all collectible in a single playthrough after clearing, a full recollection room opens up post-game, and new game plus lets you carry your progress. It’s a remarkably player-respecting structure for something this large.

What doesn’t

The friction points are real, if mostly forgivable. This is RPG Maker MV running at a native 960×540, so expect a dated engine and a soft-looking image if you stretch it fullscreen on a modern monitor. Several tower gimmicks are poorly telegraphed — color-matched lever doors, near-identical trap floor tiles, bombable cracked walls that look like ordinary scenery — and plenty of players have ended up reaching for a walkthrough on those floors, which is never a great sign for puzzle readability. The village loop can also tip into checklist territory: progression is gated on clearing your full “action list” between tower dives, and by the mid-game that rhythm of climb-return-clear-tasks-climb starts to feel like homework, especially across a 50-floor tower.

The bigger caveat is focus. The content here is heavily weighted toward humiliation, degradation-tinged jobs, and pleasure corruption, and the text volume backing it is enormous — over 700,000 characters. If corruption arcs aren’t your thing, the tower’s action gameplay alone won’t carry 15 hours. And if you can’t read that text, a meaningful chunk of what makes the slow burn work is going to pass you by, which brings us to the next section.

Who should buy this

Be clear-eyed about one thing: this is Japanese-only, with no official English support. The good news is that it’s one of the more import-friendly types of game — the animations, ero-status panel, trap scenes, and touching modes communicate most of their appeal visually, and the tower half is action gameplay you can play on reflexes. Since it’s RPG Maker MV, a texthooker plus machine translation is a workable option if you want the story. But with 700k+ characters of writing driving the corruption arc, buyers who can’t read Japanese and won’t bother with MTL should understand they’re getting maybe two-thirds of the experience. If you’re a fan of female-protagonist corruption RPGs, ero-trap dungeons, or dense pixel H animation, that two-thirds is still substantial; if you mainly buy for story nuance, this one will be hard going without the language.

Verdict

Ruluu's Town-Building Adventure — final verdict visual

8.5 / 10. An enormous, lovingly animated corruption RPG whose only real sins are a dated engine, some obtuse dungeon gimmicks, and a checklist-shaped mid-game — none of which come close to sinking the best content-per-yen ratio the genre has seen in a while.
